5 top picks – holiday books

I truly adore this time of the year! So many fun and cool holiday books to choose from, and I finally narrowed it down to 5.  These books are some of my favorites because they are interactive, and beautifully illustrated.   Most of all,  they have been  “CHILDREN APPROVED” by my students (Ages 22 months – 10 years old).

I hope that all of you will enjoy these books with your children as much as I do with mine (students).

MISS VILA’S TOP 5 PICKS (in no particular order)

"Christmas" Slide and Find Collection

A wonderful book recommended for 1 1/2+.  The little ones get to work on their fine motor skills by sliding the little windows up and down, and side to side.  I have to say that the some of the sliding doors can be a little bit finicky. I suggest that parents leave a tiny gap for the little fingers to grip. This book makes a great introductory to colors, numbers, alphabets, and matching objects.  Children ages 4+ could practice reading words, while having fun! A nice little book that will keep children busy with fun activities  in every page.

"Olivia helps with Christmas" by Ian Falconer

Recommend for ages 2 1/2 – 7.  This book captures how children anxiously wait for Santa.  I love how some of the pages opens up, and the last page sure puts a smile on my face! See for yourself.  What a sweet little story to read to your children (2 1/2 – 5).  Or have older children (ages 6-7) read to you. Who does not love Olivia? Add this book to your Olivia collection or start building a collection.

"A Christmas Wish" By Caroline Anstey & Libby Hamilton.

Recommended for ages 3+.   A lovely story about little creatures making a Christmas Wish.  Watch how your child will be surprised when he/she turns the tab,and magically sees a moving picture to reveal the wish granted by a Silver Fox.  This book may be a little long  for some 3 year olds , so feel free to edit, or continue the story the next day. You will find a treat  in every page.

"The Christmas Surprise" A Classic Mouse Family Tale by Kidsbooks.

Recommended for ages  18months+.  An adorable story about a mouse who sees something special!!  He wakes up the entire family to discover a surprise.  This book is filled with rhymes and stunning art work.  I am certain that your kids will love the pop ups and lifting the flaps in this book.  An interactive book for the whole family

"Nut Cracker" by Jan Pienkowski. Told by David Walser.

Recommended for ages 4+.   A German fairy tale inspired by a ballet. This book is perfect for reading to children before bedtime.  Older children 8+ can read to themselves or with assistance of an adult.  The silhouette images with a glittery textured background are a work of art. The last page is beautifully crafted with layers of intricate paper cuts. A must have in your shelf, and a story that could be read year after year.

Please let me know what you think about these books. If there is a book you would like to recommend, please share!!

Happy Reading!
